Biographie

Dawn Stacey a été nommée professeure adjointe à l’École des sciences infirmières en juillet 2005 et professeure agrégée en mai 2010. Elle a reçu le prix Jeune chercheuse 2009 pour la Faculté des sciences de la santé. Membre de la Faculté des études supérieures et postdoctorales, elle est scientifique à l’Institut de recherche de l’Hôpital d’Ottawa et occupe un poste conjoint à l’Hôpital d’Ottawa. Elle est aussi membre de l’Unité de recherche sur les pratiques exemplaires en soins infirmiers.

De 1991 à 2001, la professeure Stacey a été responsable de l’éducation des patients et de la formation continue des infirmières au Centre régional de cancérologie d’Ottawa. Outre son expérience professionnelle dans le domaine de l’oncologie, elle a exercé comme infirmière en pédiatrie et dans le cadre d’essais cliniques. Elle a aussi œuvré bénévolement comme infirmière dans plusieurs camps d’été. Sa thèse de doctorat porte sur l’évaluation d’une initiative permettant de renforcer le soutien qu’offrent les centres d’appels et de soins infirmiers aux personnes qui doivent prendre des décisions difficiles en matière de santé.

La professeure Stacey donne de nombreux cours au Canada et à l’étranger sur divers aspects des soins infirmiers en oncologie, le soutien à la prise de décision des patients, l’application des connaissances et les services de consultation par téléphone. Au premier cycle, elle enseigne dans le cadre du programme de soins infirmiers professionnel; elle enseigne également aux études supérieures en sciences infirmières et en santé de la population. Elle dirige et participe à plusieurs projets de recherche interdisciplinaires axés sur : a) l’amélioration du soutien à la prise de décisions des patients, soit en personne, soit par téléphone, pour des décisions touchant à des valeurs, le triage en fonction des symptômes et la gestion de problèmes chroniques; b) l’intégration de soutien à la prise de décision pour les soins fondés sur les preuves; c) le développement, l'évaluation et le contrôle de la qualité des outils d’aide à la décision des patients. Elle est chercheuse principale pour le Cochrane Review of Patient Decision Aids, cochercheuse pour le Cochrane Review of Interventions to Improve the Adoption of Shared Decision Making et coprésidente du International Patient Decision Aid Standards Collaboration (IPDAS). Des projets de recherche internationaux sont en cours aux États-Unis, en Australie, au Royaume-Uni et au Chili.
