Barbara Davies

Biographie

La professeure Barbara Davies, infirmière autorisée, enseigne à l’École des sciences infirmières de la Faculté des sciences de la santé, à l’Université d’Ottawa. Après avoir terminé en 1999 des études de doctorat à l’Université de Toronto, elle a reçu, en tant que scientifique de carrière, une bourse étalée sur cinq ans (2000-2005) du ministère de la Santé et des Soins de longue durée de l'Ontario pour un programme de recherche intitulé Research Transfer for Maternal-Infant Health. Mme Davies a également reçu une bourse du premier ministre pour l’excellence en recherche (2004-2009) afin d’appuyer un programme de recherche intitulé Interventions to Support Successful Sustained Research Transfer in Nursing Practice and Health Care. En 2009, elle a remporté le Prix du doyen (pour l’excellence en enseignement, en recherche, en administration et en service à la communauté). En 2011, la Faculté des sciences infirmières Lawrence-S.-Bloomberg de l'Université de Toronto lui a décerné le Prix de distinction des anciens en reconnaissance de ses réalisations, comme l’obtention soutenue de subventions de recherche auprès de conseils provinciaux et nationaux de financement, son large éventail de publications et la supervision de nombreux étudiants de deuxième et troisième cycles.

Ses travaux de recherche actuels portent sur la transmission du savoir, plus précisément sur la mise en œuvre de lignes directrices sur les pratiques exemplaires visant à améliorer les soins apportés aux patients et la prestation de services infirmiers. Elle travaille activement aux initiatives des organisations phares de pratiques exemplaires (Best Practice Spotlight Organizations), de l'Association des infirmières et infirmiers autorisés de l'Ontario, dans des hôpitaux, des organismes de santé publique et des centres de soins à domicile ou de soins primaires. L’éventail des sujets examinés comprend l’allaitement, la désaccoutumance au tabac, la gestion de la douleur, la prévention des chutes, le soin des plaies ainsi que la démence, la dépression et le delirium. Beaucoup d’efforts sont consacrés à l’étude de modèles de durabilité et de diffusion visant à promouvoir les soins de santé fondés sur des données probantes.
