Nouvelle école au sein de la Faculté des sciences de la santé

Le comité du sénat de l’Université d’Ottawa a récemment entériné la création d’une nouvelle école au sein de la Faculté qui aura pour nom officiel : École interdisciplinaire des sciences de la santé. L’École sera dirigée, par intérim, par le professeur Sanni Yaya.

Pour souligner l'événement, les étudiants de la nouvelle école organisent un BBQ extérieur le mardi 9 février au 43, rue Templeton. Pour de plus amples renseignements au sujet de cette activité : president@hssuottawa.ca

L'inauguration officielle de l'École aura lieu dans le courant du mois de mars.

A New School at the Faculty of Health Sciences

The University of Ottawa Senate, recently approved the request for the creation of a new school at the Faculty of Health Sciences which will be officially named: Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences. The acting director of the new School is Professor Sanni Yaya.

To celebrate the event, the students’ association of the new school is organizing an outside BBQ on Tuesday, February 9 at 43, Templeton. For more details: president@hssuottawa.ca

The new school will be officially launched later in March.

Collaboration fructueuse entre l'hôpital d'Ottawa et la Faculté des sciences de la santé

Afin de se conformer à la Loi de 2001 sur les personnes handicapées de l'Ontario, le comité d’accessibilité de l’Hôpital d’Ottawa a fait appel à l’expertise des étudiants de l’école des sciences de la réadaptation en maîtrise d’ergothérapie. Sous la supervision de Paulette Guitard, et de deux ergothérapeutes Alex Priest-Brown et April Mically, deux groupes d’étudiants ont ainsi pu estimer l’accessibilité physique des lieux, faire des évaluations in situ au campus général et remettre ses recommandations au comité d’accessibilité de l’hôpital. À la lecture de ce rapport, le comité a adopté les recommandations en allouant un budget de 50 000 $, au lieu des 15 000 $ initialement prévus, pour mettre en œuvre les propositions des étudiants. Cette collaboration fructueuse pour tous sera appelée à être renouvelée sur les autres sites de l’Hôpital d’Ottawa.

Les étudiants qui ont participé à cette collaboration avec l’hopital d’Ottawa sont : Raoul Ngompe, Anne Nitschkie, Sophie Gauthier, Sarah Marquis et Mélanie J Sirois.

Profitable collaboration between the Ottawa Hospital and the Faculty of Health Sciences

In order to comply with the Ontarian disability act, the accessibility committee of the Ottawa Hospital requested the expertise of the occupational therapy students from the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. Under the supervision of Dr. Paulette Guitard, and two other occupational therapists Alex Priest-Brown and April Mically, two groups of students were able to complete an on-site assessment of the physical accessibility of the General Campus as well as provide their recommendations to the accessibility committee. After reading and adopting their recommendations, the Hospital committee members opted to secure $50 000 to implement the proposed recommendations instead of the initial $15 000 reserved for this project. This profitable collaboration for everyone will be repeated on the other Ottawa Hospital sites.

Besoin de participants pour un projet de recherche

Une équipe de recherche de l'Université d'Ottawa en sciences de la religion supervisée par le professeur Peter Beyer est en quête de participant(e)s à un projet de recherche sur le rôle de la culture et de la religion dans votre vie au Canada et sur la vie en général au Canada et partout au monde. Si vous avez de 18 à 30 ans, que l’un parent est un immigrant au Canada, arrivé après 1967, que vous avez habité au Canada pendant au moins 8 ans, et que vous êtes d'une des origines suivante: SIKH, SOMALIENNE ET MUSULMANE OU CORÉENNE ET CHRÉTIENNE, nous vous demandons de participer à un entretien en groupe qui durera d'une heure et demie à deux heures. Les participant(e)s recevront un dédommagement de 20 $ pour la participation à cet entretien en groupe. Les entretiens auront lieu en anglais à l'Université d'Ottawa à une heure et à une date qui conviendra aux participant(e)s. Volunteers needed for a research project

A research group for the religious Studies at the University of Ottawa led by Professor Beyer is looking for individuals to participate in a research project on the role that culture and religion play in how you see yourself, life in Canada, and major issues that the world is facing today. If you are between 18 and 30 years old, have at least one parent who came to Canada as an immigrant after 1967, have lived in Canada for at least 8 years, and are of one of these three backgrounds; SIKH, SOMALI MUSLIM, OR KOREAN CHRISTIAN. We are interested in having you participate in a focus group discussion, lasting from one and a half to two hours. Participants will receive an honorarium of $20 for taking part in this focus group. The focus group will take place in English at the University of Ottawa at a time and date convenient for the participants. Le prix jeune chercheur(e) 2009 de l'Université d'Ottawa attribué à Milena Parent

Milena Parent est la lauréate 2009 du prix jeune chercheur(e) en sciences sociales et humanités de l'Université d'Ottawa. Déjà lauréate du prix facultaire jeune chercheur(e) 2009, Milena Parent est professeure adjointe à l'École des sciences de l'activité physique. Ses travaux de recherche sont axés sur la théorie des organisations et la gestion des grands événements sportifs tels que les jeux olympiques. Milena est en ce moment à Vancouver où elle travaille pour le COVAN (comité d'organisation des jeux olympiques et paralympiques d'hiver de 2010 à Vancouver).

2009 U of O Young Researcher Award presented to Milena Parent

After winning the young researcher award at the Faculty of Health Sciences Ceremony of Excellence last November, Milena Parent has just been awarded the 2009 Young Researcher Award in the humanities and social sciences from the University of Ottawa. Associate Professor in the School of Human Kinetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Milena Parent's research focuses on organization theory and strategic management, primarily in the context of large-scale events like the Olympic Games. Milena is part of the group of researchers-teachers from the Faculty of Health Sciences that will be in Vancouver for the Olympic Games.
